Music Monday – 5 Perfectly Written Songs

I recently had a conversation with a co-worker over the most perfectly written songs of all time. Obviously, this is completely subjective, so if you don’t agree, that’s fine. But here are some of my favorites and a good mix of commercial and less so.

“My Favorite Mistake” by Sheryl Crow

Who hasn’t felt this way? Who doesn’t have this person in his or her life? It’s so relatable and everyone has got one.

“Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen

The line “Together Wendy we can live with the sadness. I love you with all the madness in my soul” alone makes this song beautiful, but the chorus and the “WHOA!” moments make this a perfect song.

“Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia

The verses aren’t as strong as the chorus which is a perfect song to belt out in the car. Yeah, it’s on the radio 30 times a day still, but that shows the song’s staying power. I am unashamed of my love for this song.

“Via Chicago” by Wilco

The song begins with a gut punch with the line, “Dreamed of killing you again last night and it felt all right to me.” Gorgeous lyrics, melancholy melody and Jeff Tweedy’s voice make this a perfect song.

“Nothing to you” by Two Gallants

It’s as romantic as Two Gallants gets with the line “I’m gay as a choirboy for you.” Watch this fan made music video using public domain videos.

Can we get an honorable mention for “Are You Happy Now?” by Michelle Branch? That song is awesome.
