Music Mondays – My 5 Favorite Bright Eyes Songs

oberst

Bright Eyes is easily one of my all-time favorite bands. No Bright Eyes album is perfect and there are some real clunker songs, but when Conor Oberst is on, he is perfection. Here are my five favorite Bright Eyes songs in no particular order.

“The Calendar Hung Itself”

The first Bright Eyes song I really clung to. It sounds like a stalker’s anthem and features the creepiest use of “You are my sunshine” ever.

“Method Acting”

Yeesh. Who can’t relate to this song about disillusionment?

“Southern State”

Conor Oberst knows how to write a sad song, but this one is the saddest one of them all.

“Let’s Not Shit Ourselves”

Many critics have compared Oberst to Bob Dylan – a comparison that Oberst vehemently denies once saying “we both write songs in English, I guess.” And while that comparison might not be exactly accurate, this song is perhaps the most Dylan-like.

“Jejune Stars”

From the final Bright Eyes album, People’s Key. Easily the best song on the album.
